The maps may be viewed with a free MrSid viewer, or with any software which supports the MrSid format, such as ESRI's ArcView 3.1, 3.2 and ArcInfo 8.x.

Let us know what you think about the maps, the MrSid format, or anything else, by e-mailing Dan Carey at

The GQ's were scanned as 250 dpi, 24 bit color, tif images. Geo-referenced images are in Stateplane, NAD 83, US feet, making them compatible with the other layers of the statewide basemap data set, such as the DRG's (topographic maps), and the DOQQ's (aerial photography).

The map images are compressed in MrSid format, which will allow us to serve them over the web.

This new product will allow a geologist to go into the field with the entire, handheld, set of GQ's. With her laptop she could then lay other GIS data over the map--water wells, oil and gas wells, dump sites, water withdrawal points--any of the GIS data available in the state. The availability of the maps will facilitate geologic studies and land use planning.

WORLD FILES: If you find that your application cannot utilize the SID files without the appropriate world files (*.sdw) use the direct FTP access link above to access the directory where the world files are maintained. Upon completion of the project, all world files will be zipped together into one file for easier downloading.
